How to Make Nylon Book Covers in 10 minutes or less!

An easy way to individualize your child’s school books this year is to make your own book covers. Nylon is generally carried to make swim suits out of. It can be purchased at fabric stores at discount prices as fall approaches. Buy some in school colors or with unique designs and cover your child’s books in less than an hour!

Step 1: Combining Nylon Together

If you are going to combine colors or designs of nylon you will need to sew them together prior to proceeding. Either use a serger or a stretch stitch on a sewing machine. If you do not have a stretch stitch you can use a medium zig zag stitch with a loose tension.

Step 2: Cutting out Piece

Cut a single piece of Nylon (or combination of Nylon pieces) to make a 27 inch by 10 inch rectangle.

Step 3: Finishing Up

Fold nylon with right-sides together toward center and serge/sew across top and bottom. Trim your loose threads, turn right side out, and put on a book. This give of the fabric will allow you to stretch the fabric over most standard sized school books.
