Why pay $10 to $15 for a floating chlorine tab dispenser when you can make one from things you probably have laying around your house? Be a little “green” while keeping your pool water clean this summer. Also works for smaller children’s pools; just put in a few hours a day and remove when children are playing.
Find a small plastic cup or container, with a lid, that gradually gets larger as it goes up. I find the free cups given out at restaurants for kids work great. Play dough containers also work great. About ˝ an inch from bottom of cup, cut two slits next to each other about an inch long. Repeat every inch and a half around the base of your cup.

Take a knife, or scissors, and slip from one slit to another and cut one end loose.

Using scissors, cut dangling pieces of cup away.

Locate some scrap Styrofoam, an old foam knee rest, or piece of florist foam — anything that will cut easily and floats well. Set your cut on the foam and trace around the base.

Cut out the circle you traced and a larger circle around the outside of the center.
Push cup through circle so that the slits are below the foam. If the foam does not fit correctly, take off and re-trim inside until cup is in correct position.
Place chlorine tabs inside and put lid on.
