How to Make Quick and Easy Leather Koozies Without Sewing

These stylish and simple koozies from leather will liven up any summer get together! While the steps are easy and the pattern is provided, your creativity alone will limit where this project can take you. Fun summer craft? Cool party hand-outs? Awesome gifts? Yes, and so much more. You can also use recycled leather to make the koozies from. What a great way to use up an old skirt or jacket that you’ve outgrown! These koozies are also machine washable.

You will need: 12x8 leather, scissors, hole punch, 6 brads or eyelets, and access to a printer.

Prior to Making Your Leather Koozie

Cut leather into manageable pieces. Make sure pieces are larger than what you will need as the leather will shrink when dried. Add detergent to water prior to adding leather. Wash in hot water. Dry in dryer. This will pre-shrink the leather and allow you to wash your koozies in the washer after they are made. However, never put through the dryer again.

Print out pattern at http://www.makethemyourself.com/skoozie.html. Click on the photo of the pattern and a PDF file will be opened that you can print out. The pattern has a 1-inch square box to allow you to confirm sizing prior to cutting out the pattern. It may be necessary to enlarge the pattern after printing it out.

Assemble Your Leather Koozie

Cut out pattern. Punch hole locations into pattern.

Lay your pattern over the wrong side of the leather and trace. Indicate punch locations. I find a permanent marker works best.

Cut out leather piece and punch out brad locations.

Prior to adding brads or eyelets you can decorate the front of the koozie with nailheads, jewelry, leather appliqués, buttons, etc.

Align punched out locations (with wider piece going under the more narrow piece) and add brads or eyelets. If you use brads be sure to open the arms out sideways to prevent catching on anything inserted into the finished koozie.

Tips

You can purchase eyelets and brads in tons of fun colors at craft stores, and some department stores, in the scrapbooking section.

Be sure to consider using recycled leather. Check your local thrift stores for leather mini skirts, pants, and jackets in fun colors.

Have a local leather store? Check and see if they have a “scrap” bin; will save you a ton!
